Core Pilates
What makes people choose Pilates over the myriad of classes offered at the local gym? Pilates hones into exactly the deepest and most solid part of the body, and what is known therefore as the “core”. Each class starts by centering your mind and body to focus on the muscles that need to fire up. It is not always easy to pinpoint the layers of abdominal muscles but with repetition, reminder and encouragement, the students end up finding them and each class becomes a small journey connecting mind and body to every movement. The small groups limit distraction helping each individual strive for their best in each class.

Sometimes it is hard to get yourself to class with so many life distractions: the phone, kids, juggling work, picking up the groceries - the list goes on. Self-care is crucial to staying fit and keeping mind and body in balance. Pilates helps you focus on one deep movement at a time, flowing through exercises, holding others and breathing consciously through it all. The breath is very calming even when the exercises prove challenging. Coming back to the breath makes you concentrate on just that, one movement at a time. How often do we do that in everyday life? A strong body and a strong mind carry you through life with grace and ease.

Coming from a background in endurance sports, I understand how important a strong body is for rising to each sports challenge. Pilates concentrates on the deepest structure of muscles in the body, stretching and lengthening the more robust ones while aligning the body as best it can.
